Afterthoughts: Mining History

An INSITE Conversation with artists Mark Dion, Anya Gallaccio, and Yukinori Yanagi, moderated by art historians Derrick R. Cartwright and Sally Yard. More than two decades after creating landmark commissions for INSITE (1994 and 2000), this Conversation reunites artists Mark Dion, Anya Gallaccio, and Yukinori Yanagi to reflect on their earlier projects and the works presented in the exhibition Erratic Fields. The discussion will encompass remastered versions and new iterations of their original commissions, together with recent works that have developed out of their research in California. Drawing on myth, fiction, and poetics, as well as the complexities of social ecologies and aesthetics, these artists have profoundly shaped how we understand the natural environment and its intersections with cultural history.
