Rimer Cardillo

(Uruguay, 1944)

Uruguayan artist Rimer Cardillo’s project, A-ncestro D-ividido, was located at the Centro Cultural de la Raza in San Diego. Dealing with ecology, history, and identity, and drawing on his travel experiences through the Amazon region of South America visiting indigenous groups, Cardillo’s use of stretched animal skins overlaid on industrial materials suggests a dichotomy between the natural and the fabricated world.
