Proposal

For her INSITE97 Community Engagement project, Danielle Michaelis developed a collaboration with thirty-two students from San Diego High School entitled Where I’m From: Voices from the 619/De donde yo vengo: voces desde el 619. Focusing on sense of place, Michaelis encouraged the students to keep a daily journal about their experiences, and photograph the city around them. Based on the material at hand the students created bus shelter posters that hung in various locations around San Diego. They focused on the students’ experiences considering social and personal identity. Michaelis also worked with the students to show their photographs and text in an exhibition at the ReinCarnation Project Community Gallery.
