The community-based photographic-literary project entitled Downtown Tijuana was coordinated by writer Francisco Morales and photographer Alfonso Lorenzana. Its goal was to catalyze the formation of a nucleus of community members-students, professionals, and workers to construct a photographic register of their city and to pair these photographs with texts that address themes similar to those portrayed in the visual images. A subset of photos and texts was published under the title Tijuana entre la luz y la sombra (Tijuana between Light and Shadow), which will be the enduring testament to the collective effort of this collaborative undertaking.
