Waning, 1994

Artist

Carol Bing’s project, Waning/Muriendo, located at El Sótano, in Tijuana, consisted of transparent walls made of empty wooden yarn spools enclosing a circular interior space of yarn strung from floor to ceiling. A light source at the center of the installation allowed the layered permeable walls to cast shadows upon shadows, creating a space equally delicate and mystical. In a statement by Bing, she notes that her interest was in exploring the connections between the physical world and the inner world, revealing the power of space and environment to directly affect individual perception of existence.
