The Sound of Music, 1997

Daniela Rossell’s original proposal included the construction of an underwater sculpture of a molar that would be lowered into the ocean near the San Diego and Tijuana border. Due to various construction, insurance, environmental, and cost obstacles, the project was not realized. Her final project, The Sound of Music/La novicia rebelde, was installed at the Balboa Theatre in downtown San Diego, fabricating a film advertisement for a film starring a molar tooth as a submarine vehicle. Vignettes with pictures of the molar were installed around the front of the theatre and the marquee advertised the feature attraction, Molar Dick.
