Taxímetro, 1997

"For this piece, with which Miguel Calderón participated in San Diego INSITE97, he went out into the street in the Daniel Garza neighborhood in Mexico City, hailed a cab and convinced the taxi-driver to take him to San Diego. The trip took three days, enough time for the taxi-driver to become convinced that contemporary art was “a vile endeavor” and for Miguel to become re-accustomed to riding in a taxi after having suffered a violent attack a few days prior to the trip. The piece for INSITE consisted of a selection of photographs taken during the trip and the taximeter, which kept running throughout the exhibition." —Andrea Paasch
