Curtain Call, 1994

Felipe Ehrenberg interview for UCSD-TV, inSITE94

Mexico City artist Felipe Ehrenberg created a two-part installation, Curtain Call, sited in the concourse of the Santa Fe Depot in San Diego and in the garden of the Centro Cultural Tijuana. The artist installed two nearly identical structures. In Tijuana, the work consisted of a metal framework of poles between which cables were stretched. Across these cables, faceless cotton cloth dolls were randomly hung like human musical notes. In San Diego, the installation took a similar form, except that the framework was built of wood and the lines were made of hemp.
