Border stories working title from one side to another, 2000

Judith Barry, Border stories working title from one side to another, inSITE2000

For her INSITE97 project, Consigned to Border: The terror and possibility in the things not seen/Consignado a la frontera: el terror y la posibilidad en las cosas que no se han visto, Judith Barry designed a five-sided, T-shaped structure upon which a video and sound work with changing images of regional landscapes was projected. Located in an abandoned freestanding building owned by the Children’s Museum/Museo de los Niños in downtown San Diego, the installation invited the viewer to consider the two border cities, San Diego and Tijuana, cities with similar geographies but dissimilar appearances. Each surface of the structure focused on a different aspect of each city, from coastlines to dense urban spaces.

Curators: Susan Buck-Morss, Ivo Mesquita, Osvaldo Sánchez, and Sally Yard
Venue: Former First National Bank Building, San Diego
