A Measure of Illumination, 1994

David Beck Brown’s project, A Measure of Illumination/Una medida de iluminación, was located at the main entrance of the abandoned SDG&E building in downtown San Diego. Using the entryway columns to frame his installation, Beck Brown drew upon the architectural elements of the building to construct a central faux classical marble element containing a music and lighting system. The music was derived from ephemeral sound recordings from deep space.
